Post dated - Scotland, Zero Day

BEFORE
April 17 - ZERO DAY

AFTER
We left for Scotland with several feet of winter still all over the brown grass. We arrived in Scotland in sunshine with daffodils naturalized all over the roads, highways and castle gardens.
We were ready for flat tires or traffic snarls but there were none. There was a a little tension on the drive to the airport at the Gardiner turn off when I asked Judd, in the left lane, "Are you going to go this way" gesturing to the right, "or the long way?"  Everything was much calmer after we arrived, checked in and had an extra hour at the Portland jetport pub. (Why is the abbreviation PWM?) That morning I had put stickies of instructions all through the house where I thought Malindi, our house/dog/cat sitter might need a cue about some new appliance or which plants needed ice cubes rather than water.  I texted Kelcy an old photo (of him slaying a jack-o-lantern with a catsup-bloodied knife) and asked if he needed anything. He LOLed but said he did not. I texted Ryley a picture of his 10 year old Bonsai pomegranate tree just coming to spring life again. He wrote back to was all set too. We had just visited them at Orono last weekend and they chose to go to the Kobi Ninja Japanese hibachi grill restaurant.  It turns out that's where they get all the visiting parents to take them. The fire-setting chef show is a regular crowd pleaser and the food is good. But when we came out of the restaurant it had snowed 3 inches. There was Randi in her flip flops and the rest of us slipping around.
Back to the airport story, just about ready to board, the whiney-voiced attendant announced that our flight was oversold by 2 and they were asking for volunteers for $250 voucher to take a later flight.  When no one volunteered after 5 minutes, they offered $500 vouchers to volunteer. When I came back from the bathroom  it was up to $600. I decided to wait until it got to $1000 and then I was going to volunteer Judd and myself. We could always use the extra cash for whisky and kilts.

That was a Friday afternoon to  Newark, evening Newark to Edinbourgh flight on United Airlines. The previous post describes our morning/arrival.
