(from Google translate)
Here’s how it works for me……
Sometimes instead of pancakes or popovers ( the other two
most frequently-requested-by-my family carbs for breakfast,) they request
crepes. Malindi and I brought the
concept home from our (her) high school field trip to France( I got to
chaperone)….. We told the boys all about the sidewalk corner stands in Paris where
a guy with a flat skillet-like thing would make a crepe to order: nutella and
banana? Strawberries and crème? http://crepesdefrance.net/index_usa.htm
So, we found the Joy Of Cooking recipe (here's another one:
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/basic-crepes/ )and every so often we
build them at home, making do with the NOT-flat skillet (extra oil keeps them
from sticking.) Our preferred Maine filling is blueberries from Down East and powdered sugar
+/- whipped cream.
Here is the best part: you can only make one crepe at a time
(unlike pancakes that go up 8 on a griddle or popovers, 6 to a popover pan) SO, the family has to sit together
longer and each person takes turn eating…. I make about 20-24 crepes……(crepes only take about
1 minute each, top to bottom, to cook) but the family eats them sequentially and while one family
member stuffs, rolls, savors their crepe, the other family members chat, share
videos, tell stories, let the dog out…..
It prolongs our usual, sit-down-together–for-12 minutes meal into an almost
30 minute event!!! So fun!
Malindi and Kelcy were over this weekend so all 5 of us were
back for Sunday brunch….. What a treat.
Malindi escorted me to Portland on my way back to Vermont…. She’s got the parting shot of the men saying good bye to us…..
We have also done the other kind of crepe (paper)—just not
lately… I still have some mini-bouquets from our Becky-friend “recipes” when
the kids were little…..
