“Oh nice! A black dog. Now no clothes are safe.” - Kelcy, commenting on the new black puppy,
Juno, next to old white puppy, Daisy.
“I’m going to call her June-bug.” – Graham (who hasn’t met
her yet)
The puppy was born in New Hampshire on May 17, 2013 to a
black Lab mom and golden retriever dad. She came to live with Malindi on August
17, all leggy and long. She is shiny black, short-haired and her head profile
is entirely Labrador. She is nearly 13 weeks— (or can we just say 3 months
old?) Like toddlers, when do you stop quoting their age in months and just say
a year and a half?
Ryley and his clan wanted to be texted when Malindi and the
unnamed baby arrived. The kids came right back over from Jen’s. They helped by putting
some name suggestions in a box. Malindi did some reading. Before the evening was over, the puppy was
named Juno. She doesn’t always come when called Juno yet but she eventually
comes when called something. Juno, Roman goddess and protector and special
counsel of the State, will grow into her regal name.
To our knowledge, Juno has only piddled on the floor twice.
She’s starting to train us when to carry her outside or chase her outside so
that doesn’t happen again. So far, the 24/7 supervision is working splendidly
for her obedience. The Daisy-dog is clearly jealous but ever the polite
hostess. She just keeps wondering when the little one is going back to the
breeder.
